Protected Acres in Progress
Projects Highlighted in This Report
We are proud to share recent successes in Latin America and the Caribbean, made possible only by the generous support of our Conservation Action Fund( CAF) donors. Thank you.
The vast Amazon-Andes tropical rainforests are vital to biodiversity conservation. These forests support an extraordinary abundance of species, hold vast amounts of stored carbon, and influence climate far beyond their boundaries. They are also highly vulnerable to deforestation, wildfires, resource extraction, road building, cattle ranching, and agricultural development that fragments habitat, impacts species, and releases carbon.
Our CAF donors have helped us protect large expanses of threatened rainforest in Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru, employing conservation strategies that emphasize resilience and long-term durability in our projects. We are encouraged by our success in Ecuador coordinating a coalition of local NGOs and biodiversity funders— a groundbreaking approach to achieving conservation at a landscape-wide scale. In Ecuador, we are acting to safeguard important riverine habitat for Endangered South American Giant River Turtles and Amazon River Dolphins. In the Caribbean, we have protected a coral reef ecosystem in Cuba and migratory routes for Whale Sharks, Great Hammerheads, and Hawksbill Turtles.
We celebrate every species saved, each acre of forest protected, and our long-term commitment to partnering with local and Indigenous communities.
