Cambodia | Saving the Disappearing Grasslands
With a total global population of fewer than 1,000 individuals , the Critically Endangered Bengal Florican is among the world ’ s rarest bird species . Although it once lived throughout the grasslands of the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia , the Bengal Florican can now only be found in pockets of habitat scattered across the region .
The floodplains of Cambodia ’ s Tonle Sap Great Lake — where the majority of the world ’ s Bengal Florican return to breed every year — are among the most important of the species ’ last remaining strongholds . Here , with your help , we and partner Wildlife Conservation Society have successfully protected 94,962 acres of essential habitat for the Bengal Florican and many other species with the establishment of the new Bakan Protected Landscape in Cambodia ’ s Tonle Sap floodplain .

Malaysia | Protect the Most Important Forests Left for Tigers
Peninsular Malaysia reaches southward from Thailand and the Asian continent , where it borders the South China Sea . Here , we find one of the oldest and most intact stretches of rainforest in the world and the focus of a new Conservation Action Fundsupported initiative .
The rainforests found here are home to numerous threatened species , including the Sunda Pangolin , Helmeted Hornbill and Malayan Tiger . To protect these species — and as part of a 20-year initiative to save Malaysia ’ s largest remaining block of undisturbed rainforest — we and our long-time partner , Panthera , began work in 2023 to create a new 102,905- acre protected area in the region . There , the forest and the species that rely upon it will be safe from logging and better protected from the threat of poaching .
