Philippines | Protect the Spirit Forests and Save the Philippine Eagle
True to its name , the Philippine Eagle can be found in the Philippines and nowhere else in the world . Once , this majestic bird lived throughout the country , but unchecked habitat loss has reduced its range to just four islands and its population to an estimated 500 or fewer adult birds .
Because of You , We Can Accomplish Great Things
The second largest island of the Philippines — Mindanao — is one of this species ’ last strongholds . There , within forests that are sacred to the Indigenous Peoples of the Labata and Limpong Mandaya Communities , we and our partner , Philippine Association for Intercultural Development , are working to safeguard 59,637 acres for the Philippine Eagle and other threatened species , including the Endangered Large Flying Fox and Nicobar Crab-eating Macaque . Once complete , this project will protect known nesting sites for the Philippine Eagle , safely lock up more than 8.7 million metric tons of CO 2 equivalents and grant the resident Indigenous Peoples stewardship of their ancestral lands .
