Preaching in the New Millennium

Homilies in the context of Sunday Eucharist and Sacramental celebrations are privileged opportunities to
evangelize and inspire all who are present. Fr. Scirghi will explore homiletic approaches and technique
to more effectively preach to congregations of the new millennium.
Father Thomas Scirghi is a native of New York City and a member of the Jesuit Order. He is associate
professor of theology at Fordham University where he teaches sacramental and liturgical theology and
also the Rector for the Jesuit Community of Fordham. Previously he taught at the Jesuit School of
Theology in the theory and practice of liturgy at Berkeley, California. Fr. Scirghi is the author of numerous
articles and several books. Longing to See Your Face: Preaching in a Secular Age. With this work he
hopes to rekindle the fire for preaching for those who preach from the pulpit as well as for those who listen
in the pews. He is also the author of “Signs around the United States, Africa, Nepal and Australia. He
explains that his chief concern for the Roman Catholic Church today is making our tradition accessible to
the next generation.
The cost for this workshop is $125. This includes Thursday lunch and
all Friday and Saturday workshops at no additional cost.
