Newfoundland Now
there’s more to “the rock” than Vikings and fish. take a look
at the modern side of newfoundland and labrador

As the shining beacon
of modernism in
Newfoundland, the inn
has become the darling
of luxury seekers, well-
heeled adventurers
and Hollywood types
like Gwyneth Paltrow,
who visited in 2016.
The hotel’s sleek design
echoes traditional
Newfoundland
architecture using
wooden stilts—but
with a decidedly
modern update.
Inside, guests will find
a contemporary art
gallery, a library stocked
with books relating to
Newfoundland (open
to guests and locals
alike), a cinema that
plays East Coast films
and a bar, perfect for
sampling some local
Screech.

Botwood
Murals
Canada’s youngest province
has a long legacy of folk
art, inspired by the region’s
history, seafaring traditions
and natural beauty. That
legacy is larger than life
in the town of Botwood,
where murals dance with
colour on the sides of
local homes, fences and
businesses. The Botwood
Murals, located about an
hour drive from Gander,
CAA SaSkatchewan
now total seven large-scale
paintings and tell the story
of the town and the broader
Newfoundland experience.
Scenes depict everything
from a wartime hospital to
Indigenous culture and the
logging industry.
