The fuTure is coming — and your vote can help shape it .
At CAA Manitoba , we think a lot about how transportation and roadsafety issues evolve as our communities grow . Whether it ’ s improving roads , building better cycling infrastructure , implementing ridesharing or testing automated vehicles , the direction we move largely depends on the people we elect for local government . So it makes sense that such issues take centre stage during an election year .
You probably hear polling companies ask , “ If today was election day , for whom would you vote ?” Pollsters gauge which way the weathervane is pointing for mayoral and city council contenders . While it gives us a sense of who ’ s leading the pack , polls don ’ t really tell you much about a candidate ’ s platform or their priorities .
It can be tricky to learn every candidate ’ s perspective on infrastructure and road-safety issues — while also comparing their promises on other important community matters . Such research can be especially time-consuming with so many new faces running for office and ward boundary changes in Winnipeg . To better inform your vote , CAA Manitoba has conducted our own survey of the candidates . We reached out to all Winnipeg and Brandon mayoral and city council candidates to get their answers to your most pressing questions : What are the biggest challenges
facing your ward ? If elected , what commitments will you make over the next four years to improve seniors ’ mobility , active transportation , school zones and road safety ?
To compare candidates ’ responses , visit caamanitoba . com / community . You can also review data from this summer ’ s Probe Research survey about active transportation issues in Winnipeg . Whether you ’ re concerned about bike paths , reduced-speed school zones , potholes or street cleaning , you ’ ll find what you need to help make your decision this election day .
Finally , please remember that our advocacy work doesn ’ t end when the votes are counted . Whether the mayor and councillors are new or re-elected , we ’ ll work collaboratively with them to address road safety and infrastructure throughout their term . And to make sure your voice is heard on important issues , CAA initiatives like our Worst Roads campaign will continue connecting you to your elected representatives .
Go confidently to cast a ballot on election day for the person who represents your vision for our communities .
