It was Sunday morning I was very frightened and nervous because I was chosen for the competition and it was day of the race. We were in the stadium. There were a lot of spectators. Among them were some of my classmates. They were Tom’s fans. Tom was my greatest enemy. The race started and I began running. I was surprised when I looked back and saw only Tom near me. Others were slower. Tom and I finished among best 50 runners and we were chosen for semi finals. The next day my pupils from my school were shocked when they saw my name among competitors. Some of them shouted on me: ’’hey you! what are you doing here? go and run’’. They laughed at me. when my brother saw the race he argued with me. But I was so tired of being bullied that I didn’t listen anybody. The semifinals began and I ran as fast as I could. I was lucky to finished on the 10 th place and the next day I had to run my final race. The next day in the morning all finalists were at the stadium. We were very nervous. Ken was near me. He tried to make me feel better. But there was Tom. I knew he was a very good runner and he was one of the finalist. He noticed me and asked: ‘what are you doing skeleton with glasses ?’’I answered: ‘I’m here to beat you’’. He laughed at me and tried to kick me. But at that moment his coach saw him and said: ‘Don’t do it or you will miss the race’’. After a few minutes the race began. I heard the whistle and started running as far as I could. but Tom was faster than me. When Tom saw that I was running after his he managed to hurt my leg. I nearly fell down but somehow I stood up and continued running. The race finished and I couldn’t believe my eyes, I was the second! And do you want who won the race? It was Tom. Tom was very surprised to saw my name on the second place. He turned to me and asked: ‘really?’’I smiled and said: ’’congratulations’’. Tom answered: ’’thank you, but how did you do this?’’And went away. I had the only answer: I was so tired of being bullied. Than there was celebration, the organizations gave us our prizes. Tom took his money, he came to the microphone and said: ‘I’m so happy to win this race but I don’t need this money, there is one boy who deserves to win. It is Bill Wotson. We study in the same school and I thought that he was ugly and stupid. We often bullied him. But now I see that he is a good boy and he has the same rights. I thought he had no right to be with us because he is poor and has no parents. But I want to give prize money to him. I think that he is winner not I’’.I wanted to cry when I hear tom’s words. I thought it was the happiest day ever. Tom told about my rights and it was first time when I realized that every child has right to study and to be protected. I decided that I would fight for other children’s rights. -this was my story ,Greg do you like it? -Yes, dad, it was the best story I have ever heard…oh, someone is knocking , I will open. -Oh it’s Ken, come in, Ken. -What are you doing, Bill? -I remembered our childhood. -Sweet memories Authors: Guram Natidze (Opiza, Private school of Tbilisi, Georgia) Illustrations: Mine Bölük (100.
