THE KHAN'S FAMILY STORY (Art. 37-38)
It was 1989 in a very big city in Palestine. It was a beautiful and cheerful city, but then the war began.
There were bombs, terrible and frightening noises and guns everywhere. There were lots of soldiers
trying to capture both children and adults, old men and babies, everyone they could; while the only
thing people were able to say or, better said, shout was a desperate “Help!” hoping someone could hear
them and save them.
There were two little kids in the middle of this tragedy, two siblings called Noel Kahn, who was 15
years old, and a little 7-year-old girl called Katya Kahn. They were trying to escape from this bombs
with their family; when they realized the bombs were everywhere, they decided to leave the city on
their way to a better place.
They packed all the things they needed to survive such as food and water and soon after, they started
their journey to another live. They were scared because they didn’t know what would happen or if they
would finally arrive to the place they were going. They also felt empty because they were leaving
everything behind, their loved things and their loved ones, without knowing if they were going to be
okay, or even if some of them had already passed away.
They left the city, they passed two little towns and then they heard a loud noise: the enemy trucks and
soldiers were getting closer to them, they had to hurry up. They started walking fast, even running,
they stopped caring about the things they were carrying, they lost some of them and when they heard
the trucks even closer, they just dropped everything and started running the fastest they could.
Unfortunately, they weren’t fast enough, the soldiers got them.
They separated the children from their parents even though they were fighting to try to at least go to
the same place, but the soldiers put them in different trucks. They were sent to different places. They
