PRISHA’S STORY This story is about Prisha, a young French-Indian girl who went to Reunion Island after her mother’s death. Her father bought a bakery in « Plaine des Cafres » a calm place in the South of the Island. Her dad didn’t have a lot of money so he needed to work really hard and srill it was too hard so he unwillingly asked his daughter to help him. So, everyday Prisha woke up early to help her father to make pastries (chocolate buns…) and after that she prepared for school and went there. At school she was very tired. With the exhaustion and her difficulty to understand French and creole, school became very difficult for her. So after school she went to French lessons in a nearby city. She came home very late and then she usually cooked for her father because her father worked late after the closing of the bakery shop to prepare cakes for the next day. And after all of that she didi her homework. And it was the same thing everyday. On the weekends she worked in the shop with her dad, so she didn’t have any friends. The life of Prisha was like that, during all the first trimester. Her dad saw that her school results were getting worse, but he didn't understand why. So he blamed Prisha a lot. That was a very difficult period. One day, after the school, Prisha's classmates bullied her to get her English homework, because she was the best at english in her class, and get her money that she normally used to eat at the cafeteria at lunch. Because of that, she missed her bus, so she had to walk to her house. She cried all the way. That was too much for her. So, when she arrived at home, she decided to kill herself. So she climbed at the top of her building. She was scared but she couldn't take it anymore. So, she closed her eyes, and let herself fall from the 3rd floor . She survived but was paralysed. In the same time her uncle in India died and being his only family, they inherited a lot of money, so they went back to India because life on the island had become unbearable. Now Time has passed and Prisha has become an ambassador in India to fight child labour so that other children don’t live what she has lived.
