The Misunderstood
Boris was a young student who studied at “Hristo Botev“ language school. At sixteen years of age,
Boris had a quite unique view of the world. One day at school he had a biology lesson and the topic
was “Sexual Education“. As the lesson went on Ms Georgieva stumbled upon the topic of sexual
orientation and how everybody has the right of freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Boris
realized that he didn’t have to hide his different way of thinking anymore. After school he went to talk
with his biology teacher about it. After the conversation ended, she encouraged him to go and talk it
through with his parents. She supported him in his idea of making the world a better place for the
different people. Boris went home after school. He had decided to talk with his parents about being
attracted by the same sex. Unfortunately, the reaction of his dad, Ivan, wasn’t very pleasant. He started
instinctively shouting at him, while his mother broke out in tears. Boris was in despair because of his
dad's reaction. He ran out of the house and headed to school in anger. He wanted to share what had
happened with Ms Georgieva. On the way there, while crossing the street, a car hit him. The driver of
the car went out and saw the passed out boy, so he called the Ambulance. When they got to the
hospital, the doctors took him for an immediate surgery. When Boris woke up, he did not know where
he was and did not remember what had happened. The boy felt a sharp pain in his head. His parents
saw him awake and they came to speak with him. They asked him how he was, to which he replied
with just a simple “ok”. His dad was clearly still too disappointed of him after their last conversation
while his mum was too worried to think about it. His father asked him if he remembered what they
were talking about before the accident. Boris couldn’t forget it. His father was still too mad about it so
just got out of the room in anger while his wife was following him trying to calm him down . Boris did
not know what hurt more: his broken arm or the disappointment. Luckily, there was a boy on the bed
next to him to calm him down.
