V/ PROMINENT ACTIVITIES OF ULIS'S DEPARTMENTS

1. Anniversary of Vietnamese Students and Students' Association Day

In the morning of January 17th, 2018 at Vu Dinh Lien Amphitheater, the Compound of French faculty, Students' Association of ULIS organized the 68th anniversary of Vietnamese Students and Students’ Association Day (09/01/1950 - 09/01/2018).

The 68th anniversary of Vietnamese Students and Students' Association Day was held successfully and accomplished the objective of this celebration. With the stewardship of its management board, ULIS’s students have built upon the proud tradition of young generations, tried their best to achieve fruitful success and high results in academic performances as well as social activities. At the meeting, individuals with great contributions to activities of Students' Association in the first semester of 2017-2018 academic year were awarded certificates of merit from ULIS’s Students' Association.

2. International Symposium on Japan and ASEAN education

Under the auspice of ASJA International, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association and Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Vietnamese Alumni in Japan Club in collaboration with the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) organized the 2nd Symposium on Japan and ASEAN education in 2018.

At the symposium, participants listened to reports on different education systems, vocational education policies; cooperation in human resource training between educational facilities and enterprises; foreign language education at ASEAN countries and Japan to develop international human resources.

Assoc. Prof. Ngo Minh Thuy, President of Japan Alumni of Vietnam, Vice President of Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, ULIS’s Vice President stated: “Universities, especially private ones need to be active in recruiting students. Given freer trade and cooperation among ASEAN countries, the competition in recruiting talented students will become very fierce unless we make changes in a timely manner”. According to Assoc. Prof. Ngo Minh Thuy, the number of ASEAN students in Japan to date has been 38,000, accounting for 20% of the total number

of international students in this country. The Government of Japan is implementing its plan to attract 300,000 international students from now to 2020.
