Church Profile- 16 History of Majuli Church, Assam
Majuli is the largest river island in the world, which is located in the River Brahmaputra, Assam. There are totally 243 villages in Majuli. It has an area of 750 sq. kms. There are many small islands near Majuli. The only way of transportation to this island is by ferry boats. It takes an hour to reach the island from Jorhat.
The place where we are working is a small island located by the side of the Majuli. There are totally nine villages in this island. There is no medical facility this village. People have to cross the river by boat for an hour to go to the nearby town either for medical help or to buy medicines and for other purposes. Many times people die even if they have loose stools. The is no electricity either. As this place is surrounded by water, it is frequently affected by floods.
forward to sponsor a church building. In the year 2015, the first church in this area was dedicated for the Glory of God. Now 30 families worship the Lord here.
By seeing the huge medical need in the village, we planned to conduct medical camps. Medivision helped us to conduct the first medical camp in which nearly 600 people were treated. In the year 2014, we started an English Medium School in a small island starting from KG. 40 students are studying in this school. The parents are very much happy about our teaching. They also witnessed that their children are doing well and have improved in their studies. From January 2017 onwards, the school ministry has been handed over to ESAF( Evangelical Social Action Forum). Pray that this school should be a beacon to the children in this area.
Jesus commanded us to go into all the earth. Hence we go to the regions beyond. Jesus told his disciples that the world might hate them and that they might be persecuted. Nevertheless, they had to go. Even today the Good News of Christ is being preached to the region where Christ is not named. Amen!

In the year 2012, we started working in this village. God began to work and within 3 months, three families were receptive to the Gospel. After a period of six months the first baptism service was held. Praise God! Later in the same year more were added to the congregation. As the church started to grow we built a small worship shed in the year 2013. After two years as the congregation started to grow, we felt the need for a church building in this village.
