When the
child Jesus was brought to the temple, Anna explained
through the Scripture to those who were waiting for the Messiah that
Jesus was the Messiah. “She gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who
looked for redemption in Jerusalem” (v 38).
Some people, when getting older, stop sharing the Gospel. The Bible says, “In the morning sow your
seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand...” (Eccl 11:6). Evening refers to old age.
The first person to bring the good tidings was an angel of the Lord: “There is born to you this day in the city of
David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord” (Lk 2:10,11). When the shepherds heard that, they went and found Jesus as the
angel had told, and made widely known the saying concerning that Child (v17).
The wise men from the East also spread the news in Jerusalem that the “King of the Jews has been born” (Mt 2:2). It was
a trouble for King Herod and his men! He wanted to kill Jesus and so he put to death all the male children who were in
Bethlehem and in all its districts who were two years old or under... (v16). What a terrible thing! The Scripture saying, “Rachel
weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, because they are no more” was fulfilled (vv 17,18). When we share the
Gospel, we will have to face persecution. Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is
the power of God (1 Cor 1:18).
Our Lord's Great Commission before His Ascension was “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”
(Mk 16:15); because there is no salvation in any other name (Acts 4:12). Charles H. Spurgeon, the Prince of Preachers said,
“You have never truly found Jesus if you do not tell others about Him.”
During Christmas season, we spend a lot of time in decorating the house, setting up a Christmas tree and in so many other
activities. Why can't we spend more time in giving the Gospel to others? Let us have concern for those who are heading toward
hell. When the wise men saw the star that was leading them to Jesus “they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy” (Mt 2:10). Let
us shine like stars to proclaim the message of Christmas to those who do not know Christ!
Let us continue the work done by Anna! This is an hour of emergency!
“This is a day of good news, and if we remain silent and wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us”
(2 Ki 7:9).
