Levi, and then Gad, and then Asher. Turning from one man
to another. How helpless he would have been! Have you
been through such a situation in your life, going from one
person to another; running from pillar to post to get help. For
Joseph the danger was from his own brothers. Surely one's
enemy is from one's own household.

Hence during such times, put your trust in the
Sovereign purpose of God. No rejection can come our way
unless God allows it. Rejection is a chance for us to come
closer to the Lord. Only in such situations would we
understand the love of God. Hence, let us draw near to the
Lord. Let our tears bring us closer to the Lord. Let the storms
rush us to the Master's bosom. For, only there will we be
comforted and counseled.
2. Samuel's Counsel Rejected
1Sa 8:7 “And the Lord said to Samuel, 'Obey the voice of the
people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected
you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.'”
Joseph's boyhood was a saga of sufferings.
He lost his mother at a very young age. His father's love
would have been like an oasis. But his brothers robbed him
of his father, his home and everything he loved. His special
attachment to his younger brother is evident in Genesis
45:14. He lost everything. His life alone was preserved. He
lived in a strange land among strange people.
How many of us live in such kind of
situations? Is your loved one snatched away from you? Are
you living far away from home and loved ones, rejected by
your own families? Do you feel the pangs of rejection that
Joseph faced? Do not worry. God is in control. He will repay
you back. Though Joseph lost everything, he did not lose
God. He still believed in the God of his father Jacob. His
faith was intact. Oh, what a great gain! To lose everything
and yet, not to lose faith, and yes, even hope! Oh, how many
of us lose our hope when we are rejected by people whom
we love! It is during these times we need to turn to the Lord
and cling to Him. We must seek His love that never changes.
Let us never lose faith even when the whole world turns its
back on us. God is in control. We will not understand what
exactly He is up to. But in the end, we would join with
Joseph and say,
Gen 50:20 “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God
meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should
be kept alive, as they are today.”
God works in ways we do not understand.
Eventually everything will turn out for good to those who
love Him (Rom 8:28).
When the people of Israel demanded Samuel
to appoint a King over them, it grieved Samuel. Samuel had
appointed his sons as judges over Israel during that time. It
was a kind of personal attack on Samuel. But God consoled
Samuel and told him that the people of Israel had not
rejected Samuel counsel but had rejected the lordship of the
Lord God.
Many a times, we take our ministry on a very
personal level. In fact, God would have used our prime years
for building up a ministry or a church or an institution. But
there comes a time in every leader's life to step aside. It
might be because of our age or a particular situation. In
some instances, this might look prospective, but in many
instances we may not perceive any immediate good. All we
have to do is to trust God and leave the ministry in His hands.
God has His own generals for every generation. When
