Black Youth Achievements: The Awards 2011 – Welcome!
Here we are in November and we are delighted to be able to host the BYA Awards
once again.
Now in it’s 3rd year, the awards have established themselves firmly in the UK’s
calendar of events and are now recognised as a leading ceremony of recognition
for young people around the country. Congratulations on being part of 2011’s
momentous occasion.
This evening we will be celebrating the stories of success of some of our young
people, along with a few not-so-young in our 3 new categories for this year (see
pages 11 and 12).
It is important that we acknowledge the positive actions that are taking place
in our communities each and every day. A couple of months ago we witnessed
violence and damage throughout the country and here in Croydon. With shops
looted, homes burnt to the ground and a general feeling of destruction surrounding
us, it would be easy to assume that all youth are of the same nature. We absolutely
know that this is not the case and for that reason BYA are proud to continue to
raise the profile of young achievers throughout the UK.
We would like to wish you an enjoyable evening as you surround yourself with
inspirational and aspiring individuals.
