THOUGH DRINKING WINE OUT OF A
MUG IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN
STUDENT HOME CAN BE FUN THERE ARE
SO MANY PUBS AND BARS TO EXPLORE.

WITH A GLASS IN HAND.
STAPLES
FLAGSTONES

Atmosphere reigns supreme here, as
the chatty owners will almost always
remember you. Quite the local for
Glamorgan University students, this

place to retreat for a catch-up or some
night-time drinking. A delicious tapas
menu and perfect breakfasts are also
amongst Flagstones perks.

THE MACKINTOSH
Mundy Place, Cardiff
029 2064 9061
Often labelled as the old man pub of
Cathays, the Mackintosh sees locals and
students enjoy cheap drinks and pub

little outdated, but this pub makes up
for it with its friendly atmosphere and
spacious dining area.
GASSY JACKS

029 2023 2608
At the centre of ‘student-ville’ and only a
stone’s throw from the Cardiff Students
Union, Gassy Jacks has everything a
student could ever want from a bar. With
cheap drink deals, more fancy dress
than you can shake a stick at, and one
of the biggest TV screens you’ll find in
Cathays, Gassys is perfect for socials
and the Six Nations.
RAFFLES
67 Park Street, Treforest

A firm staple if you are a student at
Glamorgan, Raffles can be packed at
the weekends and is bound to be full

Union in popularity, the roof garden is
unlike any within a 100-mile radius.
THE TAF
Cardiff University Students Union,
Park Place, Cardiff
029 2078 1400
The Taf is Cardiff University’s main
student bar. Ideally situated next-door
to Solus, there’ll be numerous occasions
when you stumble from the Taf to
the dance floor after consuming your
bodyweight in cheap booze. With pool
tables, food, big TV screens and wi-fi,
it’s also a great place to watch sport and
meet friends during the day.
THE WOODVILLE

029 2039 7859
Fondly known by students as the Woody,
the Woodville pub is well-known for its
‘Quids’ night, cheap food and bustling
student atmosphere. The Woodville pub
is easily one of the busiest student pubs
in Cardiff, and if you don’t know it yet,
you soon will.
DUKE OF WELLINGTON
48 High Street, Cowbridge
02920782079
www.dukeofwellingtoncowbridge.co.uk
The Duke of Wellington is one of the
newer Brains gastropubs to appear. On
the most part it’s pretty much what
we’ve come to expect from these kinds
of establishments, with its traditional
pub exterior and comfy, living roomesque interior. This isn’t necessarily a
bad thing though, the Duke promises
good food at reasonable prices and a
thoroughly pleasant atmosphere.
