With a delectable cake selection and tempting paninis, Coffee Barker is a great place to enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the cafe’s many comfortable leather seats. CAFÉ MINUET 42 Castle Arcade, High Street, Cardiff 029 2034 1794 This is a unique and endearing little cafe that has earned a reputation for serving some of the best Italian food in town. Charmingly quaint surroundings make this one for a cultured bite to eat in the city as you watch the world slip by. With a focus on quality, a double shot as standard, and staff trained at the London School of Coffee, what they don’t know about Arabica beans isn’t worth knowing. The ice cream is delicious and the cosy surroundings make it a definite place to stop in. Not only do they serve a variety of teas and coffees from around the world but they also have a range of internationallyinspired paninis. COFFEE #1 Branches across South Wales This is proper guilt-free drinking as most of their coffees are 100% fair trade. The atmosphere is always lively, as is the art that dons the walls. Just sink into the sofas and enjoy. EMBASSY @ CATHAYS COMMUNITY CENTRE 36-38 Cathays Terrace, Cardiff 029 2037 3144 There is no better value cafe in Cathays than Embassy, a humble little place on Cathays Terrance that makes all its own food and serves good coffee and delicious cakes. Most ingredients are locally sourced and organic, so you can fill up on lots of healthy grub mid exams. GARLANDS 4 Duke Street Arcade, Cardiff 029 2066 6914 A truly excellent little cafe in Duke Street Arcade that will offer pretty much all you’d want from a small, cosy cafe. Championed by the Observer, this establishment offers some excellent food that makes for a damn fine lunch at a reasonable price. Buzz 031
