DG A WINGED VICTORY FOR THE SULLEN **** Atomos (Erased Tapes)  AWVFTS’s second album fits neatly into the ‘washy ambient neo-classical gorgeousness’ genre. You know the format: strings smothered in reverb, quietly epic piano... it screams ‘soundtrack’, and indeed was written to accompany a contemporary dance piece. I can personally attest that it lends an air of profound, wistful melancholy to unsuccessfully attempting to repair a child’s tricycle. Not a particular standout of the ‘washy ambient’ canon, but if you crave another disc of such stuff on your shelf you won’t be disappointed. After layer upon layer of hypnotic vocals and fuzzy synths have been thrown in the mix, you end up in a whirlpool of aural awesomeness. It’s a head spinner, in the best possible way. IR SAYTEK **** 5 Years On EP (Ubermax) Saytek has produced three cuts of techno groove to keep your head nodding and feet moving. The tracks are well considered, and expertly create layers of deft instrumentation that build and drop exactly as they should.
