Expectations of art created in west Wales might
lean towards landscapes and seascapes – after
all, the coastline and scenery are factors in
why many people end up living there. The seven
artists who comprise the prosaically-named
Art 7 group, and have an eponymous exhibition
in King Street Gallery this month, defy this
somewhat. Raymond Church, who founded the
group, specialises in pottery influenced by both
classical Greek design and modern social issues
– a vase featuring both a ‘hoodie’ and a gallant
swordsman, that kind of thing. Also featured
are the metal cast sculptures of Lee Odishow;
Owen Evans’ ceramics influenced by quantum
physics; and sculpture and paintings
respectively courtesy of Jonathan and Melissa
Cox, a married couple.
