INTERNATIONAL
FESTIVALS
ISLE OF WIGHT
READING AND LEEDS
FUJI ROCK
Newport, Isle of Wight
Thurs 12-Sun 15 June
What: The Isle of Wight is the UK’s smallest county*
but its festival is one of the biggest in the country
and every year major headline acts get the place
a’rockin. (*Fun fact: It’s only the smallest county
most of the time. It all depends on how high the
tide is yadda yadda yadda)
Who: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings Of Leon,
Calvin Harris
How much: £190 weekend / £75 day ticket
Info: www.isleofwightfestival.com
Reading and Leeds, obviously
Fri 22-Sun 24 Aug
What: Reading Festival holds the current world
title for being the popular music festival that’s been
around for the longest, and long may it continue.
Where else would angsty-pubescents go to throw
bottles full of God-knows-what at each other?
Who: Paramore, Arctic Monkeys, Blink 182
How much: £213 weekend / £99.50 day ticket
Info: www.readingfestival.com / www.leedsfestival.com
Naeba, Japan
Fri 25-Sun 27 July
What: Despite the misleading name, Fuji rock
harbours some of the most cutting edge electronic
acts to date. Independence, cooperation and respect
of nature is the ethos of this festival, tucked high
away from the busy city life. Idyllic and tranquil
(until Kanye loses his marbles for no real reason).
Who: Jack Johnson, Kanye West, Outkast
How Much: £253

DOWNLOAD
Donington Park, Derby
Fri 13-Sun 15 June
What: It can’t be a coincidence that the most
anarchy-filled of UK festivals starts on Friday the 13th.
Download has a Red Bull and a Jägermeister stage;
combine the two and you have a sound that will make
your head pump just as much as the drink would.
Who: Linkin Park, Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold
How much: £180-£215 weekend / day ticket £82.50
Info: www.downloadfestival.co.uk
RIVERSIDE ROCK
LATITUDE
Henham Park, Suffolk
Thurs 17-Sun 20 July
What: Although we’re in Europe, Latitude has a
more European feel to the rest on this UK list. That
makes sense, right? On offer are comedy/theatre/Two
Door Cinema/dance/Bombay Bicycle clubs. Delete as
applicable.
Who: Dara O’Briain, Two Door Cinema Club, Bombay
Bicycle Club
How much: £187.50
Info: www.latitudefestival.com
END OF THE ROAD
Riverside Park, Scottish Borders
Sat 21 June
What: Zorbing, rock climbing and sumo wrestling
are just a few of the activities on offer alongside real
music from local and national bands. Riverside has a
more family-fun than festival feel.
Who: Big Country, Scocha, Darkhorse
How much: £20
Info: www.riversiderock.co.uk
Larmer Tree Gardens, Dorset
Fri 29-Sun 31 Aug
What: If they wanted to hold more than 6,000 people
they probably would. But End Of The Road love that
they can bring a relatively small group of people
together to relax in a chilled environment to celebrate
(commiserate?) the end of the summer.
Who: The Flaming Lips, Wild Beasts, The Horrors
How much: £170
Info: www.endoftheroadfestival.com
ALT-FEST
BESTIVAL
Kettering, Northamptonshire
Fri 15-Sun 17 Aug
What: The world’s fist crowd-sourced festival (I
mean, every festival is kinda crowd-sourced, but this
one used Kickstarter) sets up this summer.
