Acts from all around the world come to visit the small town in North Wales. With performances from Chinese Acrobats, Dutch jazz singers and South African opera, all corners of the globe are covered in Llangollen. Alongside the music, Wakestock holds wakeboarding competitions that attract some of the world’s best in this fast flowing extreme sport. Who: Tom Odell, Frank Turner, John Newman How much: £115-£150 Info: www.wakestock.co.uk Various venues, Brecon Thurs 7-Sun 10 Aug What: Jazz fever takes over the picturesque market town of Brecon for the 30th year in a row as the Brecon Jazz Festival returns. This 30-year-old is celebrating in style with friends such as the legendary Burt Bacharach, Best British Breakthrough act Laura Mvula, and Grammy award-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter all invited to the party. Though the festival has had its ups and downs over the last three decades, it’s safe to say that it has come a long way since its founding in 1984, with a budget of just £100. Also lined up is big brass band Loose Tubes (also celebrating their 30th anniversary this year), new singing talent Zara McFarlane and the world famous Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Brecon Jazz hasn’t forgotten its humble beginnings though, and alongside the festival will be a series of free performances as part of the Brecon Fringe Festival – where local jazz lovers will get to strut their stuff.
