FOLK ON THE LAWN Abbey Mill, Tintern Fri 11-Sun 13 July What: Over 200 years ago William Wordsworth looked upon Tintern Abbey and pronounced upon the “still, sad music of humanity”. You can still hear that music today in this folk/roots festival that doesn’t even give its acts lineup priorities. Lovely. Who: Melody Causton, Fynnon, The Blushing Melons How much: voluntary donation Info: www.folkonthelawn.com GOWER FOLK FESTIVAL The Greyhound Inn, Gower Fri 13-Sun 15 June What: Now into its second decade, the people behind Gower Folk Festival know exactly how to throw a party and this three-day folk fest is guaranteed to be just that. As well as a whole host of folksy performances there will be workshops where you can learn some singing, dancing and general music making. Who: Donogh Hennessy, The Sharon Shannon Band, The Melrose Quartet How much: £45-£60 adult weekend ticket / £6-£27 adult day ticket Info: www.gowerfolkfestival.co.uk Cardiff Color Festival GREGYNOG FESTIVAL Various venues around North Powys Fri 13-Sun 29 June What: Founded in 1933, this is Wales’ oldest classical musical festival featuring some of the world’s leading musicians at intimate and historical locations across the area, including Chirk Castle. It’s a perfect weekend for over-18s that love liquor, lights and loud music. Who: Appleblim, Bodhi, Caspa (pictured) How much: £95-£105 Info: www.gottwood.co.uk BUZZ 18 Gotwood Festival Dinefwr Literature Festival by Emyr Young DINEFWR LITERATURE FESTIVAL Dinefwr Park and Castle, Carmarthenshire Fri 20-Sun 22 June What: Though it calls itself a literature festival, and is partnered with Literature Wales, the Dinefwr Literature festival is about more than just books. This bilingual extravaganza is about words, music and landscapes. Set in the stunning Dinefwr Park and Castle, there will be plenty of outdoor events to choose from, as well as performances taking place in the 17th century Newton House (that’s when the house was built, not when the festival is set) and Dinefwr Castle itself. Although Dinefwr is just a couple of years old, when it comes to its line up it knows what it’s doing: Swn festival founder John Rostron acts as curator. This year will see performances from Gruff Rhys, fresh from his adventures on American Interior, Charlotte Church, Cate Le Bon and Adrian Edmondson & The Bad Shepherds. There will be talks as well as tunes: Church, along with Laura Bates (Everyday Sexism Project founder) and Kat Banyard (UK Feminista founder), ponder feminism. Also to feature are talks from writers Nathan Filer, Helen Dunmore and Shaun Usher, poetry from Owen Sheers and National Poet Of Wales Gillian Clarke, and comedy from the likes of Jeremy Hardy and Elis James.
