GERAINT EVANS: LANDSCAPES OF FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS
Oriel Q, Narberth, until Sat 29 Mar
Info: 01834 569454 / www.orielqueenshallgallery.org.uk
Rural Pembrokeshire provides a startling contrast to the urban banality
on display in paintings, prints and installations of Landscapes Of First
World Problems. The witty bluntness of the title is a good indication of
the exhibition’s tone. Geraint Evans creates images in a washed out but
incredibly detailed style that captures survival strategies in a world devoid
of religious or economic certainty. Those on the desperate margins of society
form the backbone of his work because they provide a counterpoint to the
minor ‘problems’ that most of us lay claim to in the First World. Evans’
exhibition is thought-provoking but not overly-intellectualised; he presents
the turmoil of the world we live in with a wry but totally serious smile.
