KIDNAPPED
Grand Theatre, Swansea
Thurs 6-Sat 8 Mar
Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped
may spring to mind as a classic children’s
adventure tale, but the multi-award
winning Sell A Door Theatre Company are
hoping to attract audiences of all ages
with their dynamic touring production.
Building on their innovative reputation
Sell A Door’s 2014 season begins with
emerging playwright Ivan Wilkinson’s
adaptation of the novel.
Set against the historical backdrop of
fierce social and political unrest in 1750s
Scotland, the story follows young orphan
and Royalist David Balfour on a quest for
justice as he survives a devious Uncle, a
kidnapping, a shipwreck and accusations
of murder. Along the way he also forms
an unlikely friendship with the Jacobite
Highlander Alan Breck.
Performed by a company of five actors
the production uses a variety of media,
including puppetry, dance, and songs,
to bring the Celtic landscape, and this
coming-of-age story, to life.
Great for families, but with enough depth
in the plot to entertain a wider audience
this promises to be an action-packed
swashbuckler of a show. With the question
of Scottish independence a hot topic at
the moment, it’s the perfect time to check
this out. Tickets: £15 (family concessions
available) Info: 01792 475715 / www.
