PEMBROKESHIRE FISH WEEK
Jenni Kampf gets reeled
into all the events
taking place during
Pembrokeshire Fish Week
THINGS are looking somewhat fishy in Wales,
with Pembrokeshire Fish Week taking plaice
(sorry!) at the end of the month.
Whether you’re a fanatical fishy foodie, or
struggle to tell a whelk from a winkle, there’s
bound to be something amongst the 250 events of
Pembrokeshire Fish Week that floats your boat.
There’s something for everyone to tackle, from
cookery demonstrations and master classes with
top chefs, to family fun and fishy frolics.
The week’s events take place at different venues
across Pembrokeshire but the action kicks off on
Sat 28 June with the Fish Week Open Day at Milford
Fish Docks – featuring music, entertainers, food,
and cookery demonstrations. Leading the cooking
on Saturday at the Open Day will be renowned
chefs Bryn Williams and Will Holland.
Restaurants and pubs across Pembrokeshire
will be showcasing local seafood, with special
menus and events to celebrate these fantastic
ingredients. Foodies can also meet and learn from
the fishermen who bring these ingredients to land,
and tuck into a fresh paella made from their catch.
Experienced anglers and ‘have a go’ fishermen
alike can catch their supper during Fish Week, with
sea angling and coarse fishing championships for
the seasoned fisher, and opportunities try out eco
fishing adventures from kayak, mackerel fishing,
and fishing coaching at the county’s fisheries for
beginners.
There’s also plenty of activities aimed at small fry,
with seashore safaris and sandcastle competitions
at the beach, an opportunity to learn how to surf
and fish, as well as beach-inspired art and craft
workshops.
The finale of Fish Week is the ‘Proms, Prawns
and Picnics’ concert in Pembroke Castle. Cardiff
Philharmonic Orchestra will provide an evening
of much loved classics set against the backdrop
of Pembroke Castle. Bring a picnic and enjoy a
spectacular firework display to round off a week
of fishy fun.

venues around Pembrokeshire,

NOLTON CORNER
Brand new bar Nolton Corner opened up in
Bridgend last month, with plenty of fine wines,
craft beers and cocktails to keep punters happy.
During the day the bar hopes to be a good spot
for a sit down and a hot beverage (with coffee
from Clifton Coffee Roasters and sweet treats
from Ogmore Wale Bakery), and during the night
it plans to transform into a stylish speakeasy bar
with plenty of Wales’ best alcoholic beverages on
sale. There are also plans to open their kitchen
up later this year so it looks like there’s lots to
look forward to from Nolton Corner.
