I’ve been shooting pictures for 60 years and I’m
looking forward to a lecture?!” David laughs.
David Hurn has been shooting images of
everything from revolutions to iconic celebrities
for several decades. He has had exhibitions all over
the world, written books on how to be a photographer
and even set up Newport’s world renowned School Of
Documentary Photography. Despite his many years
of experience David is still excited by the line-up
of speakers at The Eye International Photography
Festival in Aberystwyth, highlighting photographers
such as Ian Berry.
“For 50 years he’s been going around the world being
shot at, beaten, involved in droughts, in flooding and
so on. You cannot help but gain information from
someone who‘s had that much experience.”
Another name on the lineup that David is looking
forward to is Arthur Edwards MBE, who has been the
Sun’s royal photographer since 1977.
“I’ve never met him, but I am looking forward to
that because Edwards has being shooting and going
on royal tours for years, and the tales that he will
have to tell about how it’s organised, and how it’s
structured and funny things that happened will be
absolutely wonderful! I really think Glenn Edwards
[photojournalist and organiser of the festival] has
done a really good job – he got a really good crosssection of people who are interesting.”
In 2013, the festival’s inaugural year, David was The
