A DATE WITH THE GATE
Dive into a night of live jazz, great food and tempting wine at The Gate Arts Centre on Fri 21 June. Promising an excellent three-course meal from The Gate’ s renowned Mad Hatters restaurant, alongside a fantastic wine tasting session – hosted by local wine merchant Shon Williams from Wine Store At No. 4 in Rhiwbina – plus The Gates house jazz band playing live throughout the evening, there are surely few better ways to spend a Friday evening than in the comfort of good food, great wine and fine friends in the unique atmosphere of the Gate Arts Centre. All proceeds from the night will go towards the arts centre who operate as a non-profit organisation providing arts to the community.

The Campaign For Real Ale( CAMRA) is yet again hosting the Great Welsh Beer And Cider Festival this June. Watch as Cardiff’ s Motorpoint Arena transforms into Wales’ biggest pub for three days and enjoy a selection of beers from numerous breweries both big and small. Drinkers can expect over 160 different real ales, more than 60 ciders, and a diverse range of foreign beers. There’ ll also be live music to enjoy and a range of concessions from hand-made jerky and chocolate to t-shirts and jewellery. Proceeds from the event will go to the Ty Hafan charity, for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.

THE GALLERY RE-OPENS
After a five-year sabbatical, The Gallery, on Broad Street, Barry, has swung its doors open once again to the public. Specialising in locally-sourced, organic and sustainable produce, proprietor and chef Barnaby Hibbert and his team are aiming to be an eco-friendly restaurant in everything from the cleaning products to glassware, cutlery and food they produce. Organic wine, locally brewed beers and ale feature heavily, as do seasonal vegetables and, when possible, foraging ingredients will be used. Open Thursday through to Sunday, expect to find good food, great wines and plenty of after dinner chit-chat with Barnaby and his team about all things food.
