SOUTH WALES SECRETS # 33:
Clwb Ifor Bach
Romesh Dodangoda shares one of his favourite places in South Wales.
Having produced the likes of Lostprophets, Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout, Attack Attack and many more, record producer and mixer Romesh Dodangoda knows a thing or two about South Wales’ music scene. Here he shares his thoughts on one of his favourite venues in the capital.“ Although it’ s not quite a secret and actually one of Wales’ most legendary live venues, I’ d have to say my favourite place around here is Clwb Ifor Bach. It’ s played host to countless bands who have become very successful, including the likes of The Strokes, Coldplay and The Killers. More importantly though, it’ s helped make South Wales’ music scene so strong. Bands such as Manic
Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout, Kids In Glass Houses and so many more have played at Clwb from their early days and still go back to play shows there. It’ s such an awesome place to go to watch a gig, or just to have a great night out. I’ ve watched so many bands I’ ve worked with play their first few shows there and it’ s always been a special place for me. NME shortlisted it as the Best British Venue and as soon as you go there you’ ll see why. The staff are so friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. You’ ll usually find me there on the weekend because there’ s nowhere better to go!”
