God Is Blue. L’Aventura contains more of Tellier’s traditionally upbeat fayre of three or so albums ago, albeit tinged with wacky animal soundbites. Ricky L’adolescent tells the story of his misspent youth experimenting with narcotics, while elsewhere Jean-Michel Jarre and Cassius’s Philippe Zdar wade in with similar expertise on French experimentalism. RH SHOW OF HANDS *** Centenary: Words And Music Of The Great War (Mighty Village) A two-disc set of poems and songs about the Great War. That’s right – nearly two hours of words and songs about mechanised slaughter. It’s safe to say that it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Show of Hands are very good at the sort of earnest folk which they do, and the songs themselves are clearly heartfelt, but I can’t help but wonder who the target audience for this is. It’s very worthy; take that how you will. DG STEPHEN WHEEL *** Cassette Records (Chasing Magpies) This is a bit of a mixed bag, veering from the hard rocking of opene
