“I couldn’t face the idea of being a military man and living in a military house. Tintin would never stand for that.” What was your first stand-up experience like? Not bad. Not great but not bad. I did some Frank Spencer impressions and then did some immature routine about baggy pants I think. Oh, then I did an impression of someone fishing. Yeah, it was quite weird actually. I wouldn’t say I was exactly hooked after that. Of course I had already been doing sketch stuff before that, so I kinda knew what direction I was heading in. You’ve recently had your show Short Poppies released on Netflix – did it feel very different creating a show for streaming rather than TV or radio? Short Poppies is a TV show. We made it for TVNZ back in New Zealand, then I sold it to Netflix so the whole world could see it. It has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Every day I get half a dozen tweets of praise for that show. I’m very proud. How did you come up with the characters for Short Poppies? Are ѡ
