THE POET & THE PRIVATE EYE
Rob Gittins (Y Lolfa)
The haunting image on the front cover sets the tone for this timely work of fiction
as you truly feel that you are following in the footsteps of the famous poet. In
the centenary year of Dylan Thomas’ birth, when every aspect of his life is being
examined, this is an imaginative take on the last few weeks in New York before
his untimely death.
embarking on a trip to New York, subject Thomas (as he becomes known in this
novel) is staying in the big Apple, preparing to unveil what later became known
as his masterpiece Under Milk Wood. Tasked with the unenviable challenge of
shadowing said subject, we get a glimpse of the unconventional poet through
the eyes of private investigator Jimmy. As Thomas staggers his way through the
city, via various watering holes, leaving destruction in his wake the two main characters lives interlink in
an unspoken way.
