WHAT TO WATCH: Your Guide To The Unmissible Acts Of The Festival

In spite of the plethora of alternate entertainment on show at this year’ s Green Man, the principle reason that the majority attend is to catch as many quality musical acts as possible. So, ignoring the Mountain Stage headliners, who else should you look to catch this year?
THURSDAY
Patti Smith And Tony Shannon Nothing short of an iconic character who surely needs little introduction, Patti Smith has been enthralling fans and critics alike since first exploding on the scene in 1975 with her classic album Horses. Labelled the“ godmother of punk” by the New York Times, Smith’ s inimitable folk-punk poetic style promises to be an unforgettable way to kick off the weekend.

FRIDAY
Edwyn Collins Another legendary character that should need little introduction, Collins has been a stalwart of the music scene since first emerging with cult heroes Orange Juice in 1980. Most will know him best for 1995’ s monster hit A Girl Like You, but you can be sure he’ ll bring far more than just that to the party.
Fuck Buttons Choosing a name that the vast majority of mainstream media would instantly deem inappropriate and offensive is certainly a bold move; it’ s just a good job that Fuck Buttons are pretty darn good. Their fascinating fusion of tribal beats and electronic noise is truly not to be missed.
SATURDAY
Sweet Baboo Saturday afternoon would be a wonderful time to explore the delights of the Walled Garden stage and catch North Wales’ singer / songwriter Stephen Black, AKA Sweet Baboo. Already championed by music guru Huw Stephens and the 6 Music mob, Black’ s lyrically captivating tunes will prove the perfect opener to the day.
Roy Harper The term‘ legend’ can easily be applied to so many artists gracing the stage at this year’ s event, yet perhaps none are more deserving than folk-rock champion Roy Harper. Synonymous with the 1960s London folk club scene, Harper has remained a key influence for many contemporary and classic artists and should, quite rightly, be on most music bucket lists.
SUNDAY
Stornoway In a world preoccupied by the folk stylings of Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes, it’ s astounding that Stornoway are not held in equally high regard, especially after serving up a cracking second album earlier this year. If their stage shows are half as good as their studio material, this could prove to be one of the weekend’ s highlights.
Public Service Broadcasting Quite how this duo have found themselves performing on the third stage is nothing short of baffling. Seriously, with rave reviews and a mass of critical acclaim currently trailing in their wake wherever they go, this set threatens to be THE highlight of the weekend. Miss at your peril.
