Buying Organic Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive 1 | Page 2
A great place to purchase organic produce, meats, and other organic products is from your local
farmer’s market. Many organic farmers sell directly to the consumers weekly at these
events. Farmer’s markets are a great place to find organic, seasonal produce, and not have to
mortgage your house to bring home large quantities of delicious ingredients for your meals.
A second option is by buying into a CSA program. Community Supported Agriculture programs are
set up by local or regional farmers. At the beginning of the season, you’ll purchase a share of that
farmer’s crop. Every week or two, you’ll receive a giant crate of that week’s harvest. Many organic
farmers have adopted the CSA model, and provide crates full of all kinds of organic produce, meats,
honey, and other products. The typical cost of a CSA is about $300 for six months. While it’s a
large upfront investment, think of how much you spend on organic produce at those big organic
chain stores.
Buying organic doesn’t have to be expensive… you just have to be creative. Farmers Markets, CSAs,
and other options exist to feed your family high quality organic food affordably.
