The team behind the firm’s trading strategy is led by Michael Chin and Neill
Penney, Managing Directors and Co-Heads of Trading. Both are jointly responsible
for Thomson Reuters global, cross-asset trading business, including FX, rates,
credits, equities and other exchange-traded instruments.
Michael Chin Neill Penney
Michael Chin is a managing director and the Co-Head
of Trading at Thomson Reuters. Before assuming these
responsibilities, he was Global Head of Equities at
Thomson Reuters.
Michael has defined his 29 year career in financial trading
and capital markets as an entrepreneur and visionary in
the financial technology sector. As CEO and president
of two successful financial technology startups, Michael
has a proven track record as an innovative change
agent, harnessing technology and best practices to solve
complex business problems with optimal investment
and maximization of returns. He is recognized in the
industry for creating best-of-breed customer solutions,
which incorporate his extensive background as a financial
markets trader, salesperson and technologist. Neill Penney is a managing director and the Co-Head
of Trading at Thomson Reuters.
Neill joined Thomson Reuters in May 2013 as a
workflow management proposition manager for
marketplaces. In that role, Neill led the development
of multiple FX products for Thomson Reuters,
including the Thomson Reuters FXall relationship
trading products and Thomson Reuters Electronic
Trading.
Prior to Thomson Reuters, Michael spent three years as
president and CEO of Mantara, Inc., spearheading critical
initiatives to successfully transform Mantara into the
foremost leader in developing ultra-low latency trading
solutions for the buy- and sell-side communities. Prior
to Mantara, he spent nine years in executive roles at
TradingScreen, Inc., most recently serving as president
and global head of sales and a member of the board
of directors. It was under Michael’s management and
strategic initiatives that saw TradingScreen become a
global leader in execution management systems across
equities, derivatives, fixed income and foreign exchange.
Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Neill was a
managing director and the European head of fixed
income e-trading strategy at Morgan Stanley. He
originally joined Morgan Stanley in 2009 as the head
of product strategy for FX and emerging markets,
overseeing the design and development of Morgan
Stanley’s eFX platform.
Neill joined FXall in 2001 and was the head of product
strategy and a member of the FXall management
committee.
Previous to this, Neill was a vice president at J.P.
Morgan where he held a number of quant-related roles
within their STIRT, FX options and e-commerce trading
businesses.
Neill graduated from the University of Oxford with a
First Class degree in Mathematics in 1991.
Earlier in his career, Michael spent 13 years at J.P.
Morgan and served as head of J.P. Morgan Investment
Management’s fixed income trading group. During his
tenure at J.P. Morgan, he held a series of regional and
global trading and management positions, operating from
New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Michael graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in
1988 with a degree in Information Decision Systems.
