PRINCE GEORGE B.C.’s NORTHERN CAPITAL University of Northern BC Photo Credit: Michael Stanyer Prince George is at the geographical centre of British Columbia, 800km north of Vancouver. Known as the Capital of Northern BC, Prince George is situated at the unction of Highways 16 and 97, also the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako rivers, and the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. The University of Northern British Columbia was established here in 1990, and was recently named the top university of its size in the country by Maclean’s magazine. With a population of 80,000, Prince George is popular for its outdoor lifestyle opportunities, affordable housing, and big-city amenities with a small-town feel. Prince George owes its economic success to the resource industry, particularly forestry, but has diversified in recent years to supply goods and services for a broad range of sectors throughout BC, Canada, and internationally.
