Clea Lightfoot,
Resident of the Month
Congratulations to Clea Lightfoot on
being selected Resident of the Month!
Benton Clea Lightfoot was born on
Dec. 18, 1924, on a farm in Adonis, Mo.
Clea’s parents, Benton and Atha Lightfoot,
had five children. Clea had an older broth-
er, Robert, and older sister, Eleanor. His
younger sister, Alene Eaton, currently lives
in Pittsburg, Mo., and his youngest sister,
Dorothy June Staten, lives in Hermitage,
Mo.
Clea attended Oak Grove School until
the eighth grade and then began working on
the family farm full-time. In 1947, the fam-
ily purchased the Lightfoot Hardware Store
in Hermitage, Mo. They also purchased and
resided in the old Hermitage Motel. A short
time later, a fire broke out on the west side
of the Hermitage square destroying the
hardware store. Clea and his family rebuilt
the store adding a motel to the second
story.
In 1951, Clea married Juanita Lightfoot.
They had the same last name! Both Clea
and Juanita were raised in Oak Grove
Baptist Church (where Clea is still a
member) and had known each other since
childhood. At the beginning of their
marriage they lived in Hermitage and then
purchased a farm in Polk, Mo., that be-
longed to Juanita’s grandparents. Clea
enjoyed working on the farm and raised
livestock. Eventually, Clea and Juanita
built a home on Clea’s family farm in Pitts-
burg, Mo., on the Polk and Hickory County
line. They lived there for over 30 years. In
1999, they moved to Bolivar and enjoyed
living in town. Clea and Juanita enjoyed 61
years of marriage before Juanita passed
away in 2012.
Clea and Juanita were blessed with three
wonderful children: Bonnie Carter, and her
husband, Mike, live in Nemo, Mo.,
Lena Lipe, and her husband, Donnie,
live in Bolivar; and Brian Lightfoot,
and his wife, Mary, live in Lee’s Sum-
mit, Mo. Clea also has five grandchil-
dren and nine great-grandchildren.
Clea has had a life-long interest in
basketball and baseball. He enjoyed
being on a town baseball team when
he lived in Hermitage. The Hermitage
team played against surrounding town
teams. Shortly after he and Juanita
married, they went to St. Louis to
watch a Cardinals baseball game. That
was a big deal! Clea has continued to
enjoy watching the Bolivar teams
play.
Clea moved to Butterfield in 2015.
He enjoys van rides, men’s lunch,
socials, and musical entertainment. He
also enjoys reading his Bible every
day. Clea’s happy and friendly person-
ality is a blessing to all us. Thank you
for sharing your story with us Clea!
