Lynn Cunningham,
Resident of the Month
Lynn Cunningham was born in Tacoma,
Wash., on July 15, 1942, to Uris and
Ruby Cunningham. He was the third of
nine children. Even though both of his
parents were from Oklahoma, they both
wanted to raise their family in California.
Lynn graduated from Turlock High School
in Turlock, Calif. After his high school
graduation, Lynn began a career as an
over-the-road truck driver.
In 1964, Lynn married Barbara Jones
from Claremore, Okla. Together, the
couple had four children: Charlotte
Johnson of Halltown, Mo.; Patricia Lee
and Victoria Parker, both of Modesto, Calif.
and James Cunningham of Springfield, Mo.
Lynn has been blessed with 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
For many years, Lynn, Barbara and
their children lived in Turlock, Calif., before eventually returning to Oklahoma.
In 1980, after 16 years of marriage,
Lynn and Barbara decided to go their
separate ways. Lynn moved to the
Springfield area where he met, and
eventually married Cora Mathews. They
too were married for several years before deciding to part ways. Lynn then
met Lavona Schimdt from Darby, Mont.
The couple were later married.
Lynn was known nationwide, not by
his birth name, but by his C.B. handle,
The Missing Link. During his career, Lynn
would estimate that he traveled more
than four million miles. After 42 years on
the road, Lynn retired from the Boatwright
Trucking Company in Republic,
Mo.
Lynn is a life long member of
the Church of Christ. All his life,
Lynn has enjoyed fishing and
being outdoors.
In 2013, Lynn decided to make
Butterfield Residential Care Center
his home. He can now be found
staying active with the exercises,
outings, bingo, socials and visiting
with his friends. “I enjoy living at
BRCC,” he says with a smile. “I
really enjoy all of the friendly
people.”
Thank you for sharing your
story with us Lynn. We are very
thankful you are a part of the
family at Butterfield Residential
Care Center.
