Peggy Rice,
Resident of the Month
Peggy Rice was born Oct. 5, 1947, in
Winnemucca, Nevada. Her parents, Wan-
da and Dallas Jones, were traveling and
looking for work at the time. They both
lived in the Neosho, Missouri area when
they met, but continued to have trouble
finding work in Missouri and headed
west.
Eventually, both of Peggy’s parents
became employees at a military depot in
Tracy, California. The couple made their
home in Modesto, California, where
Peggy spent the majority of her child-
hood. Peggy has an older sister, Patricia
Edmondson, who currently resides in
Morrisville, Missouri.
In 1965, Peggy graduated from Grace
M. Davis High School in Modesto, Califor-
nia, and then attended business college.
She wanted to be a nurse, but was per-
suaded to go a different career direction
and began working in the same clerical
assistant position as her mother at the
military depot. Peggy married her first
husband and welcomed her first daugh-
ter, Deann Tweedle to the world. Deann
currently lives in the state of Oregon and
has two sons.
When Peggy's parents retired, they
moved back to the Springfield, Missouri
area and Peggy joined them when she
separated from her husband. She be-
came employed with Cox Health System
and began working in the hospital cafete-
ria. Since Peggy had always wanted to be
a nurse, she was thrilled when Mrs. Cut-
ty, the director of the nurse's aide educa-
tion program at Cox, encouraged and
invited her to join the program. Peggy
continued her education at Franklin Tech
in Joplin and became a LPN (licensed
practical nurse). She worked for Cox
Health System for over 20 years.
She then finished her career working
at Brookhaven Nursing and Rehab in
Springfield.
When Peggy moved from
California to Missouri, she met
George Rice. The couple married
and were blessed with a daughter,
Melissa Rice. Melissa currently re-
sides in Springfield. George worked
at a mill and enjoyed coon hunting.
Peggy and George were blessed with
30 years of marriage before he
passed away.
Peggy enjoys reading mystery
novels and is an Agatha Christie fan.
She likes going shopping with her
family and has fun playing bingo and
paddleball at Butterfield.
