Claudine Scott, Resident of the Month Claudine Scott was born in Sedan, Kansas, to Ralph and Elizabeth Penfield. Claudine was the youngest of six children and had three brothers and two sisters. Her father worked for the Prairie Pipeline Company. The family lived in town and Claudine has fond memories of roller skating around the town square! The family moved and lived in the Ozarks for a short time and Claudine got to attend country school. She loved it! They moved back to Se- dan and Claudine attended Peru High School. It was there that she met William “Bill” Scott. The two quickly fell in love and, once they graduated from high school, got married. Once the couple were married, Claudine and Bill moved to San Diego, California, where they both worked for an aircraft manu- facturing company. After their first daughter, Vicki, was born Claudine became a stay-at- home mom. Shortly after they moved to San Diego, Claudine’s parents also moved to the area. It was helpful to have them close by to help with the baby! Claudine and Bill were then blessed with two more daughters, Claudia and Robin. Claudine returned to the workforce when the girls were older and she worked as the church secretary at Point Loma United Methodist Church for nine years. When Bill retired he and Claudine became “Airstreamers.” The couple started with a 19 foot Airstream motor home and eventually worked their way up to a 31 foot Airstream. They had a lot of fun attending Airstream ral- lies around the country. This led them to an opportunity to work at Yellowstone National Park where they stayed for a total of six sum- mers. Bill even got a special job at the famous Yellowstone Hotel! Bill passed away when he was just 66 years old. It was then that Claudine found her love for ballroom dancing. She continues to dance today. In addition to dancing, Claudine en- joyed crocheting for many years and has made a large variety of things including dolls and Christmas trees. Claudine met her second husband, Daniel Frost Watson, while ballroom dancing at the local senior center. They enjoyed many years together until he passed away. Currently, Claudine has seven grand- children and six great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Vicki, lives in San Diego, Cali- fornia; her daughter, Claudia, lives in Bolivar with her husband, John Lower; and Robin sadly passed away a few years ago after she and her husband moved to Colorado to be closer to their son and family. In 2018, Claudine moved to Butter- field. She participates in several activities including daily chair exercise, bingo, musical entertainment, parties, games, and Helping Hands Club. She also enjoys playing dominoes and King’s on the Cor- ner with her special friend and fellow resident, George Singer. Claudine also used her dancing talent at this year’s Golden Age Games and played the part of Patsy Cline. We are thrilled to have her as part of our Butterfield family!
