Congratulations to Gene and Chris Hudson on being selected as residents of the month ! Both Gene and Chris were raised in the Poplar Bluff , Mo ., area . Eula Christine “ Chris ” was born to Charles and Elsie Crook on March 11 , 1923 . Chris has two older brothers , Mitchell and Noble , and one older sister , Beatrice . Keith Eugene “ Gene ” was born on April 26 , 1923 , to Louis and Eula Hudson . He has an older brother , Oscar , who passed away as a young child , and a younger sister , Doris , who currently lives in Aldrich , Mo .
Both Gene and Chris graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1941 and worked at the Poplar Bluff Coca-Cola plant . Chris ’ family soon made plans to move to California and Gene went with them .
Gene and Chris were married on Oct . 26 , 1941 . WWII began a short time after and Gene was eventually drafted to serve in the United States Army Air Corp and was stationed in Colorado and Hawaii . Gene had played the trombone in the high school marching band and his talent extended into his military career when he became a member of the U . S . Army Air Corp Band .
At the end of the War , Gene and Chris made their home near Los Angeles in Hawthorne , Calif . Gene worked for Culligan — first delivering water softeners and then worked his way up to plant manager . Chris enjoyed being a housewife and raising the couple ’ s two sons , Douglas and Charles . Gene and Chris were very involved in their sons ’ schools and activities . They were members of the PTA , YMCA , Boy Scouts of America , and the school board .
Their oldest son , Douglas , and his wife , Carol , currently live in Idaho . Their youngest son , Charles , and his wife , Renee , live in Walnut Grove , Mo . The Hudson ’ s family
has continued to grow and they now have seven grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren .
After 30 years of living and working in California , the Hudsons retired to Aldrich , Mo ., in 1977 and lived in the house that Chris designed and Gene and his brother-in-law built . They lived there for 30 years enjoying life on the “ farm .” In addition to raising steers , Gene enjoyed working in the barn and tinkering with the John Deere tractor , and Chris enjoyed quilting and painting . Eventually they moved to the Bolivar Plaza apartments and lived there for several years . Since 1981 they have been active members of Eudora Baptist Church , where Gene served as a church deacon .
In 2015 , the Hudsons moved to Butterfield . They attend Bible study , music programs and parties . They recently celebrated their 75 th wedding anniversary and are continually an inspiration to all of us . Thank you for sharing your story with us !
