Anna Hall,
Resident of the Month
Anna Lee Jones was born on June 23, 1931,
to Bob and Lela Jones in Greenville, Ky. She
was the seventh of nine children. Anna grew
up on a farm and recalls all of the goats, chickens,
hogs and large garden. Upon harvesting, her
mother would can everything that came from
the garden.
In 1948, Anna graduated from Graham
High School. After high school, she attended
Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Ind.,
and graduated as a medical secretary. After
graduation, she was first employed by a seed
company where she served as a secretary to
five gentlemen.
After she attended a dance that her friend
had invited her to, Anna met Afton Hall. The
couple were married in 1951. Afton worked as
a manager for the Chrysler Corporation and
Anna was the owner and operator of Ann’s
Café. After living in Indiana for 11 years,
Anna and Afton moved to Pacific, Mo., where
they would remain for twenty years before
eventually moving to St. Louis.
Anna and Afton were blessed with two
wonderful sons: Bob and David. Bob and his
wife, Cindy, currently live in Heber Springs,
Arkansas. David and his wife, Sharon, reside
in Bolivar. Anna has also been blessed with
five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
When Chrysler went on strike, Anna went
back into the workforce. What she thought was
temporary, became more than 30 years of job
force experience. While working, Anna was
employed by a loan company, physicians’ office,
and St. John’s /Mercy Hospital in Washington,
Mo., where she worked as an HR recruiter.
After 17 years of service, Anna was able to
retire from St. John’s.
Sadly, in 1987, Afton passed away. Anna
continued to live in their home until 1994
when she decided to relocate to Bolivar. Her
son, David, had moved to the area and she fell
in love with it.
Anna finds joy in all of her hobbies,
especially quilting, taking art classes,
teaching vacation bible school and
being a den mother. Anna was also a
professional clown and visited the
Children’s Home in Bridgeton, Mo.
Traveling has always been one of
Anna’s favorite pastimes. She has had
the opportunity to travel to Europe
and has enjoyed numerous Alaskan and
Caribbean cruises. She has extra fond
memories of celebrating Oktoberfest in
Munich, Germany, and taking a safari
in Hades. While there, she enjoyed a
mountain tour on horseback.
In 2014, Anna made Butterfield
Residential Care Center her home.
She enjoys participating in the weekly
art class, music and parties. Thank
you for sharing your story with us
Anna! We are blessed to have you as
