Congratulations to Gloria McLaughlin on being selected as Resident of the Month !
Gloria was born on October 27 , 1937 , in Shell City , Mo . Gloria ’ s parents , C . J . and Nellie Bybee , had 10 children . Gloria was the seventh of seven girls and three boys . The Bybees owned a grocery store in Collins , Mo ., and Mr . Bybee also worked as a Baptist preacher . Gloria started working in the family store when she was 8 years old for 25 cents per hour . She then accepted a job at the local lumber yard and her pay doubled to 50 cents per hour .
Gloria graduated from Collins High School in 1955 and moved to Kansas City , Mo . She began working in the accounting department at Sears , Roebuck & Company . Gloria then moved to California with her first husband , Donald “ Don ” Worthington , and lived there for 13 years . Gloria and Don had grown up together and were married in Las Vegas , Nev ., in 1961 . Gloria was able to transfer her Sears position to a California location and eventually became head accountant .
The couple was blessed with one son , Rodney , and grandson , Bradley , who are both the loves of Gloria ’ s life . Rodney is a high school teacher and currently lives in Austin , Texas and Bradley resides in Tigard , Ore .
Gloria and Don moved back to Missouri and built a house in Louisburg . Gloria worked at the local lumber yard . Eventually the couple divorced and Gloria moved to Springfield , Mo ., and worked for McBee Binder Company . She worked her way up and became manager of purchasing .
While working at McBee , Gloria met Harold “ Mac ” McLaughlin . He was a broker for packaging companies and was visiting the company on business . In 1986 Gloria and Mac were married . Gloria moved to Hot Springs , Ark ., where Mac was living . They enjoyed living on Lake Hamilton where they always had lots of company in the summertime . Mac ’ s job required him to travel and Gloria went with him . The couple also had several vacation traveling opportunities . In addition to visiting all 50 states , including Alaska and Hawaii , Gloria has visited Mexico , Canada , Aus-
tralia , New Zealand , Africa , Italy and the Fuji Islands .
After 16 years of a wonderful marriage , Mac passed away in 2001 . Gloria began working for the Smart Corporation , based in Alpharetta , Ga . In her position , she set up new contracts for hospitals and clinics . She had an office in her home and traveled all over the country . She retired once , but had too much time on her hands . She went back to work for a second time . In all , she was selected as Director of the Year three times winning cruises and cash bonuses . When Gloria did completely retire , she enjoyed several travel opportunities . She even went on an African safari !
In 2015 , Gloria moved to Butterfield . She enjoys outings , bingo , parties , and various other activities . Her kind and helpful heart blesses all those around her . Thank you so much for sharing your story with us Gloria . We are blessed to have Gloria as a part of our Butterfield family !
