Leta Cowan,
Resident of the Month
Leta Cowan was born on May 26,
1938, to Ruel and Verla Butler in
Everton, Mo. Leta has two brothers,
John and Conrad. Throughout her
childhood, Leta and her family moved
frequently. Because they moved so
often, she and her siblings attended
grade schools in both California and
Washington.
Eventually, Leta attended Greenfield
High School, where she was involved
in the Pep Club, Drum Corps and the
Glee Club. After graduation, she moved
to Kansas City where she worked for
the Business Men’s Assurance Company (BMA).
On Feb. 21, 1958, Leta married
Robert “Bob” Wendell Cowan in
Springfield, Mo. It wasn’t long before
Leta and Bob had purchased a farm in
Aldrich, where they lived for many
years, raising cattle and hogs.
The couple were blessed with 56
years of marriage. Sadly, on Oct. 4th,
2013, while Leta was recovering from a
broken hip, Robert passed away
The couple was blessed with two
children, Rhonda and Mark. Mark and
his wife, Dana, care for the family
farm, while Rhonda and her husband,
Tom, live near Rogersville and own a
photography studio. Rhonda is also a
substitute teacher for the Rogersville
School District.
Leta has also been blessed with
four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, with another on the
way.
Leta is a member of the Church
of Christ in Bona, Mo. For several
years, Leta has enjoyed teaching
Sunday school and Bible school.
She was also a member of the
Dadeville School District’s Parent
Teacher Association where, for
several years, she had served as
President.
Traveling with friends has always
been one of Leta’s favorite pasttimes. Her most memorable trip was
one she had taken to Hawaii.
Leta made BRCC her home in
2013. She enjoys playing bingo,
music, socials, parties and visiting
with her many friends. “The residents are vgood friends and
make the day brighter,” states
Leta with a smile, “We are all well
taken care of here at Butterfield.”
We are blessed by you, Leta,
and thankful you are a part of our
BRCC family.
