Transportation Through
Times of Crisis

VOLUME 56, NUMBER 3
Dear readers of BUSRide,
I hope this letter fi nds you safe and in good health.
During these challenging times for bus transportation
providers of multiple industries, I wanted to thank you for
being a subscriber of BUSRide and BUSRide Maintenance, and to reiterate our support
for all transportation providers affected by this horrible global health crisis. We will
continue to provide the thought leadership and industry coverage you expect from our
publications during these trying times.
The intercity bus industry ground to a standstill when state quarantine rules took
effect and, despite the best efforts of industry associations and leaders, was roundly
ignored by Congress and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (or
“CARES Act”). In fact, motorcoaches were the only major mode of transportation not
specifi cally addressed by the CARES Act.
While public transit thankfully received emergency relief funding, the industry saw
ridership plummet more than 85 percent in many cities and municipalities. Furthermore,
post-COVID operations changed dramatically with the introduction of new sanitizaton
and sterilization procedures.
As a result of the COVID-19 devastation, I also want to introduce a new online
resource for you from our editors. "Transportation Through Times of Crisis" is delivered
weekly to online BUSRide readers, having begun in early April and continuing
throughout this ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
