eMirrors by Prevost
Prevost recently introduced the fi rst electronic side-mirror system
in the North American motorcoach industry: eMirrors, revolutionizing
driver visibility for added confi dence and safety. With cameras and
screens instead of traditional mirrors, eMirrors offer a signifi cantly
larger fi eld of view eliminating side-by-side blind spots – in addition
to dramatically improving visibility in nighttime, inclement weather
conditions and challenging lighting.
Offi cially exempt from 49 CFR 393.80(a) [Docket No.
FMCSA–2019–0159] by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration (FMCSA) as of January 15, 2020, Prevost eMirror,
powered by Smart-Vision from Vision Systems North America, Inc.
will be available on custom orders for early adopters starting mid-
2020, with wider availability in 2021.
In addition to the driver confi dence and safety advantages, there
are also strong business benefi ts for owners and operators by
eliminating traditional mirrors. Internal Prevost testing estimates a
3 percent fuel economy savings through improved aerodynamics.
Plus, there’s no worry about costly repair and downtime expenditures
caused by damage to the external mirrors in tight situations.

J.W. Speaker Corporation 272 CHMSL
LED warning light with camera
J.W. Speaker Corporation recently announced its newest LED
stop/taillight with a built-in backup camera, the Model 272 CHMSL.
As part of J.W. Speaker’s growing list of 360-degree lighting
solutions, this 7-inch by 2-inch light is available as a combined
warning light and Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) — all with
a high-defi nition camera to simplify trailering or backing up.
“If you drive a bus, industrial vehicle or truck,
you’re going to want to get your hands on
these lights,” said Jacob Franke, director of
engineering at J.W. Speaker. “While the 272
CHMSLs light up every time a driver pushes
the brake pedal, our LED lights reach maximum
intensity faster than incandescent counterparts.
This brightness commands the attention of
drivers behind the vehicles and gives them more
time to react.”
In addition to the lights’ compact design, the
Model 272 CHMSL boasts a high-defi nition
camera for extra driver visibility. The camera can
be connected to reverse lights to display anytime
the vehicle is put in reverse and it is adjustable to
allow for various mounting heights.
The Model 272 CHMSL meets all safety standards, including the
United States Department of Transportation (DOT), United Nations
Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), and Society of Automotive
Engineers (SAE).
