The Family Fielden’s
RF: “They are a donor agency and I pitched
the case for Grenada and out of 14 or 15
projects, I got a 1/2 million dollars and that’s
what used to fund The Pure Grenada Project”.
Part of that funding was put towards the
building of a new school at Vendome; which
was destroyed by (Hurricane) Ivan. Hotel
guests and local business donated. The project
was US1/4 million project, and now boasts the
nicest library in the country.
THE COCOA GENERATION
Grenada Chocolate has been developing an
excellent reputation over the years, due to its
134
high quality cocoa beans. New industries and
production facilities have led to an increase in
production, and a growing foodie following.
The Fieldens have seized on this opportunity
undertaking the marketing of Spice Island
chocolate products in their latest venture,
Grenada’s first Chocolate Museum.
MF: “The Chocolate Museum is a collaboration
with Jeanne Fisher, to be
housed in
her former Tikal Gift Shop on historic Young
St. in St. Georges it’s a beautiful historic
building and we are trying to preserve the
treasure”.

Slated to open in Nov. 2015 the museum will
focus on the ever growing delicious industry of
cocoa, and chocolate. There will be workshops
on the history of cocoa; how it came to
Grenada; about ‘tree to bar’ concept created
by the founder of the Grenada Chocolate
Company, Mott Green. Special emphasis
will be on teaching people how to make a
simple chocolate, educating on the benefits
of chocolate and of course an abundance of
chocolate tastings, just to keep things real.
MF: “We consider the next generation to be
known as ‘Generation C’ which stands for The
Cocoa Generation.
We did a chocolate tasting at a school,
and the children were able to pick out all
the flavors, ginger, passion fruit, it was
amazing how accurate they were. If you
go to adult tastings they have a hard time
identifying the flavours”.
True Blue Bay Resort also hosts The
Grenada Chocolate Festival every May.
Into its 4th year in 2016, the festival
is very focused on the farmers and
the producers, and is a showcase for
everything Chocolate.
