Country Profile About Grenada Grenada’s Capital City St. George’s CULTURAL PROFILE Grenada’s cultural heritage is largely the result of a mixture of African, East Indian, French and British influences and is seen in the folklore, dialect, music and general way of life Grenadians speak Standard English, Grenadian English and a French African patois. Grenadian dialect also has many French words. Grenada and especially Carriacou is full of folklore. Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward Islands, 1625 miles southeast of Miami, 4350 miles southwest of London, 2100 miles away from New York and 366 miles to Caracas Venezuela. AREA The main island Grenada is 120 sq. miles, while the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique are 14 sq. miles collectively. TOPOGRAPHY Grenada’s volcanic origin has produced topography of great beauty and environmental variety, ranging from mountainous rain forest to dry lowlands and coastal mangroves.
