Amanda’ s top five tips for
success are:

1. Have a healthy determination If you haven’ t got the fire in your belly, you don’ t have the passion and drive to make what you are doing the best success it can be. She thrives on seeing a team pull together and surpassing their aspirations and ambitions. In turn that creates successful business opportunities for growth.

2. Building world beating teams She often use the analogy of her role as the lead singer in the band, or a team captain in sports, where it’ s necessary to allow people to perform at their best, whilst providing the structure or game plan. It’ s important that people have some freedom to express their knowledge and expertise, otherwise you don’ t get their best work, or they become frustrated. You need to create the right working culture to allow each one to play to their individual strengths.

3. Avoid being the smartest person in the room Surround yourself with smart, energetic people and be prepared to welcome their advice and expertise. Amanda is fortunate to have the support of people who are the best at what they do; it’ s what she looks for in mentors and advisors. Better still is when their views, background and approach differ; the result is a richer seam of knowledge and experience.

4. Every day is a school day There are times when you seek advice and others when you know if inyour gut that you are making the right decisions. Have the courage of your own convictions because that is what will take you down uncharted paths and at that point you need to be a strong leader.

5. Go with the flow Sometimes you just find yourself being in the right place at the right time. It’ s what you then do with that opportunity that matters. That’ s when it’ s important to delve behind the façade to uncover the true worth of an organisation. At Scottish Slimmers Amanda was drawn by the strong heritage the company enjoys. She could see ways to refresh the brand to make it more relevant to today’ s drive for health, nutrition and wellbeing.

Get up, work hard and repeat There is no substitute for hard work. Play to your strengths, always keep learning and keep an agile mind and body, then you have the perfect balance to take on whatever life throws at you.
Until you challenge yourself a bit and step just outside your comfort zone, who knows what might be possible? One thing for sure is you can either accept the status quo and follow the pack or you can take control of your own destiny and make your mark. Steve Jobs once said“ I want to make a ding in the universe”, that’ s a pretty good target to aim for.
