But for all the challenges and excitement that accompany the
activity, Small said he’s more hopeful that Blocworks will create a
sense of community amongst those who frequent it.
“One thing we definitely wanted to do was make a business
that’s so much more than just a ‘rock climbing place,’ but a
destination for those with a shared love of what we do, and to
create a community, to encourage people to connect,” he said.
“We’re excited to be able to provide the city with a place to
experience the kind of experience that climbing has given us.”
Minimal equipment is required — climbing shoes, chalk bags
and chalk, which helps to maintain friction and gripping (similar
to gymnastics). If customers don’t have their own, rentals are
available. Waivers are required to climb at Blocworks.
“Eventually, the joy I get from climbing is the same kind of
joy I want to provide other people,” Small said. “That’s the real
joy of Blocworks.”
So for an afternoon of fun, fitness, fellowship and community,
visit Blockworks in downtown Edmond, and find your own path.
Once opened, Blocworks will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and
1-8 p.m. on Sundays.
