How the app market has grown & what is driving this
There has been an increase prominence and availability for health and fitness related mobile apps entering the market (Mintel, 2015). 54% of consumers are interested in logging all aspects of their daily routine, such as
monitoring their sleep, the steps taken throughout the day, tracking what
food is consumed and tracking fitness performance (Mintel, 2015)
Health and fitness apps have offered consumers a more cost effective way
to achieving goals, which also give data on other health and fitness related
stats such as sleeping patterns and tracking calories consumed data in
which a gym cannot offer (Mintel, 2015). This coincides with the percentage
of only 13% of people wanting to lose weight will go to a gym (Mintel, 2015).
A recent research study from a mobile analytic company showed that the
average traffic to health and fitness apps rose by 62% in the first 6 months
of 2014 (Mintel, 2015). This shows that consumers are now discovering that
they can accomplish their health and fitness goals through an app on a
mobile device in place of signing up to a gym (Mintel, 2015).
